Trail Selfie in Maple
Where Memory Meets Grain
Custom maple wood plaque featuring a CNC-carved trail selfie with detailed relief and natural grain.
This piece started with a moment worth preserving—a trail selfie snapped after a long climb, legs shot, heart full, and that unmistakable look of earned exhaustion. I wanted to turn that photo into something more lasting, something my mom could hang on the wall and feel the grit behind it.
To get there, I worked up a design that captured the emotion and terrain. I had a little help translating the photo into a carveable sketch—just enough digital finesse to guide the contours without losing the soul. From there, it was all hands-on: refining the lines, choosing the maple, and carving the story into grain.
The result is a keepsake that’s personal, tactile, and trail-tested. It’s not just a gift—it’s a moment made permanent, with every knot and ridge echoing the climb behind it.
Craft & Materials
This piece was carved into hard maple, chosen for its tight grain and warm tone—ideal for capturing facial features and trail textures without visual noise. The relief was CNC-cut with precision, then hand-refined to bring out the depth and emotion in the selfie.
To protect the carve and add contrast, the lines were filled with epoxy resin, slightly overpoured to ensure full coverage and a clean surface plane. The fill not only seals the detail but adds a subtle gloss that catches light like a summit sunrise.
Every knot, ridge, and pour was intentional—built to last, built to honor.
